Refrigerated vehicles

At Van de Hurk commercial vehicles, we have a bus for every job, including refrigerated/frozen transport of your goods. But what do you actually need to consider when you want to buy a refrigerated van? We share our knowledge and explain.

It starts with what do you want to transport? How cold does it have to be? If you want to transport groceries or a nice cold beer, a cooling van is sufficient. But when it comes to transporting deep-frozen products, the Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority requires that these be transported using a freezer lorry. For this purpose, certain certificates and gradations have been created.

THE VARIOUS STANDARDS

Refrigerated vehicles can often be certified, so that you can be sure that they will do their job. An ATP certificate is a guarantee that the refrigerated van actually preserves your products at the correct temperature. There are three categories:

FRA: You can choose between +12 and 0 degrees Celsius at an outside temperature of 30 degrees Celsius on average.
FRB: you can choose between +12 and -10 degrees Celsius at an outside temperature of 30 degrees Celsius on average.
FRC: you can choose between +12 and -20 degrees Celsius at an outside temperature of 30 degrees Celsius on average.

DAY & NIGHT MODE

There are cooling vans that feature a night stand. This means that you can use a plug to allow the refrigerated van to cool/freeze even when you are not driving. This can be handy when, for example, you want to load your car at night and leave early the next morning. This way, you will start off well chilled.
